Gentleman Jim, a good friend to the Urban Markets and a long time Atlantan who got his start in Harlem has written a delightful book that he will be signing and discussing at McDonough Street Market on Saturday, August 29th. He was the very first African American Tailor for Macy's and has designed clothes for James Brown, Mohammad Ali, and many stars that appeared at the Apollo Theater. It will be quite a treat to meet him in person. Stop by at 6:30 and meet him. We will have refreshments and a great time. Bring your friends and shop either before or after...don't forget Jake's Ice Cream.

McDonough Street Market is an urban market co-op, consisting of local artists, craftspeople, and other creative vendors. It features handcrafted art including jewelry, re-fashioned vintage items, pet portraits and children’s clothing. The Market also includes a florist, stationery, organic skin care, handmade soy candles, organic tea, preserves, and hand-made Kenyan items benefiting artists in that country. To round out the mix, a baker offers cookies, muffins and more - the perfect complement to Jake’s Ice Cream. Grab and go lunch items from Delectables will be available soon. There are still comfy couches and wireless-internet, making it a great spot to hang out or meet friends. The Market also offers meeting and/or party space available for hourly and daily rental fees.
